I have two Hamer Studios, a Studio Custom and a Studio Mahogany, I got both used, the Studio has non stock pickups but the Mahogany has stock Duncan '59s
It's not just the sound, it's the feel of the guitar. The seller is correct when he says to forget about Gibson, if you play a Hamer for a while and then go back to a standard production Gibson the difference is obvious. They are top quality. They don't sound like a LP or an SG, but they are probably somewhere in between.
I find the Hamers to be a step above my PRS McCarty. In fact of the three brands Gibson, PRS and Hamer, Hamer is on top for me.
Bear in mind though I've never played a custom shop or "R" model Gibson, my experience is limited to the ones I've played, that is my own.
Studio Custom
Studio Mahogany ( mahogany body, two piece mahogny top )
Both are from the 2000 - 2010 with fatter necks than previous early model Hamers
