G&L USA S500

G&L USA S500 in three tone burst.

Satin finish maple neck with rosewood board, ash body with brown shell guard.

Pickups are G&Ls own patented MFD single coils. High output, big, fat and in your face

Controls are G&Ls PTB, master volume, bass and treble.

S500s generally have tele style knobs, they also have an extra mini switch for combining neck and bridge pickups.

Most G&L Legacys and S500s have the #1 neck but they still vary a little from guitar to guitar.

This is a fairly recent 2008 model, and the neck is medium chunky.

Locking tuners are now an option on the S500, any new one ordered or built in the last two years or so will only have them if specified by the customer or the dealer.

Again bought used in mint condition.

A lot of guys complain that G&Ls do not sound like Fenders, that they sound somehow sterile.

They're not supposed to sound like a Fender, if you run an MFD equipped guitar with volume treble and bass at 10 it will sound way different to a strat. The MFDs can really cut. You need to back off everything to about half way and go from there. Simple really, but a lot of guys don't, or won't, get that.

Even more so if the amp in question does not like MFDs. My Laney TT sounds ok with the MFD equipped guitars, S500s, ASATs. On the other hand the Blues Junior and AC30 sound fantastic with the same guitars.

Yes, you have an S500 also, G&Ls are so much unappreciated, even in the US. In Europe even more so.
It's a pity their distribution over here is so thin.
