A 1986 Heritage VIP 2 with a strat body shape and set neck. Construction is a two piece all maple body with a mahogany neck.

Twin humbuckers, Heritages own HRWs, with dual volume and tone controls, with a three way selector switch and a Kahler flat mount double locking trem.

The extra switches are for humbucker / single coil and variphase for each pickup. The middle mini is a kill switch.

Heritage only made this model for a few years back in the '80s, it is an odd mix of influences and styles to say the least ! Considering it has an all maple body it's not heavy at all. The pickups are hot, and in this model they're very close to the strings, I have them below the top of the pickup rings and they still have lots of power.

Hi Paul,

Hope you are well,

Many thanks for introducing this ultimately very rare beauty to us southpaws.

When I think about the 'VIP' guitar bodies I think about the PRS-like bodies by Warmoth.

I learned about the Heritage Randall Wall Pickups through Mark Cally.
He is an Australian jazz guitarist based in L.A. who plays for Jennifer Keith and Royal Crown Review.
He has them in his Heritage Golden or Super Eagle.

I guess from then on that these pups can be jazz-orientated but can also do more.

He has some greatly interesting very barely seen videos through his YT MI online channel.
Here is one about his 'Benson picking technique' - to whom it may be of interest:

Many thanks for showing this beauty to us.

Keep well

All the best

Thanks.

HRWs are modded Schaller pickups, modded in house by Heritage, although they have stopped making them a while now because of supply issues.

I also have them in a Millie, or a Millennium Standard Ultra to give it it's full name. The "Ultra" was the inclusion of the HRW pickups.

It sounds very like a tele on the bridge pickup, which is very weird when playing it :D

Hi Paul,

Yes I learned about that when inquiring.

Mark also plays a brown sunburst L5-CES - what a beauty; matches well along with Jennifer's voice.

I really like how he plays his Heritage guitar, notably at the Cosmopolitan and Cicada Club.

A guy well worth listening to...

Eventually I definitely bookmarked your website https://southpawguy.com

Keep well

Best
